Storey ParkWashington’s NOMA Neighborhood Making a Comeback With Storey Park

Washington, D.C., USA

The Challenge

To revitalize an industrial area that was the former site of a Greyhound Bus terminal to be a destination for area residents.

The Design Solution

HKS designers integrated the existing community through a mixed-use development that combines residential and hospitality spaces with substantial street-focused retail/restaurant components and outdoor spaces for community activities. The site includes interior-tiered courtyards separated for hotel patrons and residents. The interior courtyards are framed by a six-story bridge of amenity space and units spanning between the east and west residential towers.

The Design Impact

The addition of the mixed-use buildings will bring more people into the once-neglected community of about 1,000 residents. It will transform the neighborhood — Washington, D.C.’s fastest growing — into a 24-hour hub of residential, retail, corporate and outdoor spaces. The project is slated for completion in 2021 and will seek LEED Silver certification.
