Hotel El GanzoA True Original: Hotel El Ganzo Presents Live Art as a Design Statement

In a popular sun-drenched location filled with myriad resort options, HKS was challenged to help design a revolutionary experiential destination that would differentiate from the crowded Puerto Los Cabos hotel milieu.

In collaboration with Hotel El Ganzo’s founder, Pablo Sanchez-Navarro, the design team was constrained by a pre-established scope based on an unfinished architectural design. Working within this framework on a modest budget, HKS was tasked with creating a magical guest experience with limited resources.

With just 72 guest rooms and a keen eye toward Bohemian style aesthetics and materials, Hotel El Ganzo is a refuge and a mind-opening departure from the typical Los Cabos resort hotel. Clean, custom-created furnishings and original décor elements set the unique visual tone against the natural backdrop of the beautiful Sea of Cortez.

Located with a commanding view along the Puerto Los Cabos Marina, HKS created a destination that supports and celebrates creative expression. Visiting artists record original music in the hotel’s Underground Studio, accessed by a hatch door in the floor of the hotel lobby. Live musical performances and curated visual art exhibits offer guests an insider’s glimpse into the artist’s creative mind.

As conceived by the HKS design team, El Ganzo has established itself as a cultural draw, meet-up destination and artist’s salon for both U.S.-based and Mexican talent. The Artist in Residence program hosts visual, musical, and directorial talent from all over the world to create – through literal applications on the walls, furniture and in the sound studio – and leave their mark on the resort’s ever-evolving canvas.
