HKS Fort Worth Moves to New Digs on Historic Magnolia Avenue

HKS Fort Worth has relocated, marking another milestone for our firm’s history in the City of Cowboys and Culture. Now on West Magnolia Avenue, we designed our new space to improve our ability to collaborate and host clients, while also increasing our connection to the community.

We opened our Fort Worth office downtown on Macon Street in 2006, but our story here began more than 15 years ago with architect Brent Sparks working on-site with Harris Methodist Hospital. Historically, we were a predominantly health care-oriented office, but as we gained traction in the area, our work has expanded across sectors. Projects such as Dickies Arena, True Worth Homeless Resource Center, Moncreif Cancer Institute and Simpli.Fi now define our growth beyond health care into sports, commercial spaces and more.

“Over the last 13 years we have taken the HKS Ft. Worth office from an aspiration to an established team,” says Norman Morgan, office director. “Our city is stepping up its prominence, impact and value proposition and we are a part of that. Moving to a place that embodies our best and allows us to engage with our community is essential to reaching our potential.”

The Near South Side area where our new office is located, is one of Fort Worth’s premier neighborhoods, known for its mixed-use walkability and eclectic architecture. Historic monuments and contemporary buildings mingle on Magnolia to create a streetscape that promotes community and creativity, all while being authentically Fort Worth.

During the design process, we sought to acknowledge the region’s past without being trapped by its stylings. A large arch, a feature of the 94-year-old building’s Masonic lodge origin, is preserved in spirit as a large frame that draws attention to a pair of conference rooms. Vaulted ceilings and tall windows fill the space with natural light and a visual connection to the street, which is home to one of the best, award winning, restaurant rows in North Texas.

HKS Fort Worth’s new location puts us on the doorstep of our health care clients in the nearby medical district, while also making us easily accessible to clients from across the region. We wanted the ability to host the community, our clients and other industry professionals. Our lobby – called The Exchange in a sentimental nod to Fort Worth’s old cattle market – is designed with that in mind. It can be expanded to host larger groups by opening the conference room’s glass curtain walls to enlarge the usable area.

We believe a work space should adapt to your needs and not the other way around. To maximize space and allow for the evolution of the office environment, multifunctional spaces were created that suit multiple work modes. We’ve blurred the lines between the front-of-house and back-of-house to pull the curtain back and invite key stakeholders in to be part of the process.

Conference rooms can flex to meet the needs of our users, and a modern update with touches of western styling completes the space. Cowhide adorns the wall behind the reception desk and carpet in the conference room evokes more of Fort Worth’s cattle culture.
